The job

The brief

Marlo wanted a video that felt like the last ten minutes of a night out: everyone still dancing and nobody sure why. No story, no performance to camera, one colour.

The shoot

One room and a full day of haze. We lit the whole stage from behind and let the camera find people rather than placing them. Twenty-two dancers, two cameras, and a playback rig loud enough to keep everyone moving for nine hours.

The cut

The edit follows the breath in the vocal, not the beat. It took a week, and the label asked for one change. The teasers were cut vertically from the second camera, which had been framed for it all day.
